In Washington, DC I came across Wicked Waffle and sampled their waffle sandwiches.  The waffle serves as the bread and they have savory and sweet versions.  A few options were ordered.  My favorite was the Peking Duck Waffle.

American Sardine Bar is a charming, dimly lit bar with a great beer on tap selection and some fun sandwiches and appetizers.  This was my first time at this venue and a good time was had by all.  I especially enjoyed the spaghetti sandwich and the sardine sandwich, be warned it is bite sized.
