The Dim Sum scene in Philadelphia has been a little stale of late. The staple dim sum venues still exist and with the exception of Dim Sum Garden moving next to Joy Tsin Lau there hasn't been any big shake up. I say this with love for Dim Sum Garden, but I'd argue that's more Shanghainese small bites with excellent soup dumplings but not traditional dim sum dishes.
Nom Wah Tea Parlor, original location in Manhattan's Chinatown, has arrived in Philadelphia. I ended up eating there late on a Saturday right as they were still getting into the groove of things. The dishes are what you'd expect from a staple dim sum menu, with a few twists here and there, but mostly classics.
There are no carts, you order the dishes you'd like off a menu and they arrive quite promptly. For anyone hoping to expanding their options and horizons when it comes to dim sum in Philadelphia, give Nom Wah Tea Parlor a whirl. Its a welcome addition to the Philadelphia food scene. Just don't go there for the soup dumplings, go to Dim Sum Garden for those.
